山姆（马修•布罗德里克 饰）深爱的未婚妻琳达（凯莉•普雷斯顿 饰），琳达却移情别恋毅然与他分手了。山姆没想到自己的无限量牺牲换不来女友的珍惜。山姆不愿就此放手，于是他在琳达与新男友安东尼的新居附近租下了房子，企图日夜监视琳达的生活，继续了解琳达是生活并希望琳达会有回心转意的一天。
山姆认识了邻居玛姬（梅格•瑞安 饰），原来玛姬也是在监视自己的前男友，她的前男友竟然是琳达的新欢安东尼。两人竟然会一起通过望远镜看到了自己的前女友与前男友的缠绵生活，愤怒不已的玛姬竟然想到要联合山姆一起报复安东尼。
